Day 3 - Tizi'n'Test to Marrakech

A typical Moroccan breakfast. Not much for a hungry cyclist, but good.

Stunning views up there. It was quite cold - maybe 10° C

This very friendly musician played a few chords at our table when we had a mint tea (of course he wanted a few Dirhams for that). Sounded a lot like Irish fiddle music.

Some ten kilometres before we reached Marrakech we turned back to see what we had just crossed:

When we arrived in Marrakech, we immediately got lost in the maze of the little alleys in the Medina , but many kind (and a bit astonished) people pointed the way to Djemma el-Fna, the main market plaza with many hotels in the vicinity. As soon as we neared the place, we were stopped by one of the “guides” who showed us a cheap hotel for a fee of 20 Dirham (€ 1.90). We paid 60 Dirhams per night, there for a decent room with a basin. They even had a European toilet (not the usual hole in the floor with a bucket) and hot showers (which were, regrettably, doubling as Moroccon Toilets with a hole in te floor and a bucket). Here’s a (tilted) video of our view and the typical sounds outside:

After having settled down, we decided to go for a stroll across Djemma el-Fna, the famous plaza and we hadn’t taken 10 steps before some snake charmers had ensnared us. The following picture is symbolic of our Marrakech experience. It cost Wolfgang 20 Dirham, but I was even worse. Before you scroll down further, you have to know that I used to have a severe phobia of snakes (like any sensible ape) which I only overcame when I realized that all phobials boil down to fear of death, which I got rid of. Anyway - I felt I had to prove to myself that I wasn’t afraid of snakes any more and made a complete fool of myself, endorsing cruelty to animals to boot.

For this picture, the snake charmer wanted a whopping 200 Dirhams (€ 19.-), but luckily I only had 20 Dirhams in the main compartment of my purse and he grudgingly had to let me go.

We ate some overpriced an not very tasty food, Wolfgang bought some overpriced and mouldy cashew nuts and then we went back to the hotel, swearing to be more careful the following day...
